Although specialising in the accompaniment of opera and choral works, in recent years the orchestra has also received critical acclaim for performances of purely orchestral repertoire, leading to a growing number of engagements. The ensemble is versatile and flexible, ranging from 5 players to 75, and performing repertoire from early baroque to demanding 20th century scores.
Recent successes have included highly successful premieres of new works by Dominic Muldowney and David Bedford, recording the soundtrack for the feature film Panic, distinguished performances of Beethoven and Brahms Symphonies, and accompanying outstanding soloists, including saxophonist, John Harle, flautist Adam Walker and the brilliant clarinettist, Julian Bliss.
